The 1963 Volvo P1800 Jensen is a truly iconic and rare classic car that offers a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike. This stunning example is finished in California White with a contrasting red interior, and it is one of only 6,000 P1800s built by Jensen in the UK. This particular car is number 4851, adding to its rarity and historical significance.
The car was acquired by the current owner in 2016, who embarked on a meticulous restoration process that was recently completed. Every aspect of the vehicle was restored to factory original specifications, with the exception of a modern brake servo for improved safety. The restoration process was extensive, with only the most worn-out parts being replaced using high-quality Volvo components from VP Autoparts in Sweden.
The bodywork, restored from the bare metal, was completed by the renowned firm Hogenboom, ensuring a flawless finish with a high-quality paint system. The interior has been completely reupholstered to the original specifications, and the dashboard instruments were overhauled to ensure their accuracy and functionality.
The car’s mechanicals were carefully overhauled, including the engine, overdrive, brakes, carburetors, starter motor, dynamo, suspension, and gearbox. The gearbox and differential were found to be in excellent condition and were carefully refurbished externally, cleaned, and sealed. The engine was fitted with custom-built CP pistons, and a modified rear oil seal was installed for optimal performance. Additionally, the wiring loom, brake lines, rubber parts, fuel tank, and soundproofing were all replaced to ensure the car is in top condition.
Notable original features include the rare wheel covers, the original FIAMM air horns, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and a classic Blaupunkt Munster radio with FM reception, adding to the car’s vintage charm and authenticity.
In its restored state, this Volvo P1800 Jensen is in absolutely brand-new condition and looks as it did when it left the Volvo factory gates in 1963. It represents a rare and valuable specimen for Volvo collectors and P1800 enthusiasts, offering a combination of timeless beauty, mechanical excellence, and rare originality. Whether for display or enjoyment, this car stands as a true testament to Volvo’s engineering excellence and design vision.
This magnificent Volvo P1800 Jensen is ready for immediate enjoyment, making it an excellent investment and a fantastic addition to any collection.
